Capital IQ from Standard & Poors is the market leader in providing financial data for a range of critical financial professionals. Most of those users, however, obtain the data needed from the Capital IQ platform then exit back to their traditional workflows to get the value from the data. The design objective for Capital IQ was to not only make an easier to use, more beautiful interface. The larger goal was to define workflows and services that would allow those professionals to get more value out of the Capital IQ platform itself. Our team conducted user research into the types of precision tools the users needed to generate investment ideas directly in the platform. The result was a complete re-design of Capital IQ that imagined it as an application hosting environment that contains collaboration workflows directly on the site. My team not only articulated this strategy, but also generated the design concepts for this new offering, and followed through into supporting the front end development with fully documented design. Early stage betas have already gone live with more broadly available launches scheduled for this fall. The users of the next generation site have lauded it as both beautiful and ambitious.
